GLASTONBURY 2009 TICKETS SELL OUT FIVE MONTHS EARLY

Tickets for this summer's Glastonbury festival have sold out, despite no headline acts having been confirmed for the Somerset event.

Some 90 per cent of tickets were snapped up via an early deposit scheme, with fans paying £50 initially and completing their payments by Sunday February 1st.

A limited amount of tickets went on sale yesterday and any cancelled or returned tickets will be re-sold on April 5th.

The sell-out returns the legendary festival to its previous popularity, rather than the sluggish sales of 2008, when 3,000 tickets remained unsold on the day before the festival.

"We're chuffed to bits that we've managed to sell so many tickets so far ahead, especially when you look at the weather outside," said organiser Emily Eavis, whose father Michael founded the festival nearly 40 years ago.

"Thanks to everyone for keeping the faith; it's certainly shaping up to be another vintage year for Glastonbury festival, with a brilliant line-up to be unveiled in June."

No headline acts have yet been announced but Bruce Springsteen and recently reformed Blur have been rumoured for the 2009 festival.

Controversy surrounded last year's event when the likes of Noel Gallagher reacted angrily to the naming of rap star Jay-Z as the Friday night Glastonbury headliner, though the Roc-A-Fella mogul's triumphant show proved one of the major hits of the Somerset festival.
