The British girlband saw their new LP Out of Control seize the top position ahead of Razorlight's latest offering, Slipway Fires, which entered the countdown at number four.
Pink's Funhouse slipped from number one into second position ahead of Enrique Iglesias' Greatest Hits compilation at number three.
The top five is rounded out by Snow Patrol's A Hundred Million Suns.
In the British singles chart, X Factor Finalists clung onto number one with their charity single Hero, which kept Beyonce Knowles in second place with If I Were A Boy.
Girls Aloud remain in the chart at number three with The Promise, while Britney Spears' Womanizer saw off competition from Leona Lewis' Forgive Me - they are at numbers four and five respectively.
