GIRLS ALOUD JOIN BIG TOP POPS

Girls Aloud have become the latest band to confirm they will be playing at Liverpool's Summer Pops festival.

Sarah Harding, Cheryl Cole and the rest of the girls will join Amy Winehouse, James Morrison, Deacon Blue, McFly, OMD and Steely Dan in performing in a 4,000-capacity big top in Merseyside this summer.

The girl band, who are set to take the number one spot with their Comic Relief take on Aerosmith's Walk This Way with the Sugababes, will be playing at Aintree Racecourse on July 3rd.

Local girl Nicola Roberts said she was looking forward to appearing in front of a hometown crowd.

"This is going to feel like a home town show for me," she said.

"I know all about the Pops being a local girl and it should be a really great night for us."

Tickets for the event, which lasts from July 3rd to July 21st, went on sale this morning and more big-name acts are being promised by the organisers.

"This announcement proves that, as usual, this year's Pops will feature both legendary names and the hottest contemporary acts," promoter Chas Cole said.

"This week saw the completion of our new venue, the Aintree pavilion, which will offer concert-goers a uniquely exciting experience. I can't wait to see the acts we've got lined up for this year's Pops perform in such a wonderful arena."

Amy Winehouse will be performing the day after Girls Aloud, while ageing rockers Deacon Blue are appearing on July 5th.
