GIRLS ALOUD BREAK SINGLES RECORD

Girls Aloud have sung their way into the new edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.

The girls have broken the record for the most consecutive UK top ten hits by a female group after clocking up 17 straight successes.

They broke the record with their March number one hit, Walk This Way, collaborating with the Sugababes to produce a terrible cover version of the Aerosmith/Run DMC classic.

Destiny's Child were the former record holders, with 11 straight top ten hits, while the newly-reunited Spice Girls have their work cut out if they are to reclaim the girl band throne, with ten straight top ten entries.

Ahead of a possible announcement of a 50th birthday tour, Madonna has also earned a place in the new records compendium, after grossing £100 million on her Confessions tour to break Cher's record for the highest grossing music tour per concert.

Madonna also claimed the record for the most number one albums by a female artist, with nine chart-toppers.

And despite its poor critical reception, Robbie William's 'innovative' recent album Rudebox has sent him into the record books, with its chart-topping November 2006 release earning Robbie the record for the most albums to reach number one by a British male.

However, Williams' record also includes three number one albums from his Take That days.
