GIBSON BLASTS SEQUEL CRAZY HOLLYWOOD
MEL GIBSON has blasted Hollywood bosses for making "sequel after sequel" and insists today's audience are smarter than film bosses realise. The action star-turned-director, who starred in four LETHAL WEAPON movies, knew his religious film PASSION OF THE CHRIST would a box office hit because audiences needed something different. And the film's $600 million (GBP315 million) taking worldwide proved the tough guy actor right. He tells movie magazine Empire, "I knew there was a huge hunger out there for a different kind of film. I think that often at times people ignore the audience, they just keep serving them up the same thing. It's sequel after sequel after sequel. "I think they're starving to death and they want to be enriched. They want a good yarn, they want to be involved."
