GHOST RIDER CRUSES TO TOP OF US BOX OFFICE

NICOLAS CAGE's comic-book adaptation GHOST RIDER has set the US box office on fire delivering the biggest Hollywood opening this year (07) with $44.5 million (GBP23 million) takings. Debuting in second place with $22.1 million (GBP11 million) was Disney's BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA, based on the classic children's novel about a boy and girl who create an elaborate fantasy land to escape their troubled childhood. The EDDIE MURPHY comedy NORBIT was bumped from the number one spot down to number three, taking in $16.8 million (GBP8.6 million). Premiering at number four with $14 million (GBP7 million) was the romantic comedy MUSIC AND LYRICS, which paired DREW BARRYMORE and HUGH GRANT as unlikely songwriting partners. TYLER PERRY'S DADDY'S LITTLE GIRLS opened in fifth place with $12.1 million (GBP6.2 million). Spy thriller BREACH, starring RYAN PHILLIPPE and CHRIS COOPER, debuted at number six with $10.4 million (GBP5.3 million).
