GERVAIS SLAMS BRITISH CINEMA

Comedian RICKY GERVAIS has blasted the entertainment industry in his native England, insisting the country fails to produce original movie ideas. The Office creator and star is eager to distance himself from British cinema - because he would prefer to establish himself in the American film scene. He says, "I was offered all kinds of films. Half of them were English so that's a no. The English just aren't good at making films. "It goes from gritty gangster films to everyone acting like something out of Jane Eyre. I don't want to be a part of those things." And the 46-year-old is far from impressed with the amount of aspiring actors desperate to break into British show business: "There are loads of awful TV actors - we've only got about three real film stars. And we are riddled with people you see popping up on (television shows) UK Gold or The Graham Norton Show or coming out of a club pissed."
