GERVAIS REJECTED STAR TURN IN NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2
British actor RICKY GERVAIS turned down a starring role opposite BEN STILLER in NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN - so he could direct his own self-penned movie.
The Extras star appeared as Dr MCPhee in the first film of the adventure comedy franchise in 2006 and bosses were keen to make his role bigger for the second installment.
But Gervais was forced to turn down the offer and keep his appearance in the movie fleeting, because he had already committed himself to directing and starring in The Invention of Lying, which is slated for release later this year (09).
He writes on his personal blog, "Hope you like my three minutes on screen. They'd actually planned quite a big part, but it was a ten day shoot in two parts which was impossible as I was filming The Invention Of Lying. I had to do as much as I could in a weekend. It does the job though."
