GERE DEVASTATED BY DALAI LAMA'S PHOTO CRITICISM

RICHARD GERE was left devastated when his spiritual hero the DALAI LAMA slammed his photography, calling the actor's arty snaps "poor quality". Buddhist Gere first exhibited his photographs in Houston, Texas a decade ago - to raise funds for Tibetan refugees - and was thrilled when the Dalai Lama agreed to attend. But the star had no idea the Buddhist leader was such a fierce critic. He recalls, "He calls me over by himself... and we're looking at a picture and he says, 'This is really poor quality.' I was dying. "I like pictures that are a little bit soft focus or blurry, if you wanna see it that way, and they're a little off... and he didn't buy this at all. "He likes colour, mine are black and white, platinum, they're a little strange."

That's too sweet - how kind of the Dalai Lama to let Gere know that clarity (rather than "blurry") is good. May all be happy.
