George Michael must appear in court later this month to answer drug possession charges.

The 'Faith' singer was charged today (12.08.10) with drug possession and driving while unfit through drink or drugs, stemming from an incident in the early hours of July 4 when he drove his car into the front of a London shop.

The 47-year-old star - whose real name is Georgios Panayiotou - was freed on bail to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court later this month.

The incident - which happened as the singer was returning home from the Gay Pride parade in London - happened shortly after George had completed a two-year driving ban.

George was previously arrested in September 2008 after being caught in a public toilet in possession of crack cocaine and marijuana.

A year previously he was handed 100 hours community service for drug driving after being found slumped at the wheel of his Mercedes car by police.
