GEORGE MICHAEL SENTENCED TO COMMUNITY SERVICE

LATEST: GEORGE MICHAEL will perform 100 hours of community service over the next 12 months as punishment for a drug driving offence last year (Oct06), a London court has ruled. The former Wham! star learned his fate at Brent Magistrates Court today (08Jun07). He has also been banned from driving for two years. Speaking outside the courtroom, Michael accepted responsibility for his crime but branded the "media coverage of this trial farcical". He added, "I'm glad to put this behind me and am now off to play the biggest show of my life at Wembley (09+10Jun07)." Michael pleaded guilty last month (08May07) to the charge of driving while unfit. The court was told the 43-year-old had a cocktail of drugs in his system including GHB and cannabis when he was found slumped at the wheel of his car in the British capital in the early hours of the morning.
