GEORGE LUCAS EXPECTS NEW INDIANA JONES MOVIE TO DISAPPOINT

George Lucas has warned fans to lower their expectations of the upcoming fourth Indiana Jones film.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull opens in the UK in May with Lucas providing the story basis for David Koepp's script, set to be directed by Lucas' long-time friend Steven Spielberg.

A veil has remained over the plot of the film that sees Harrison Ford returning as the adventurous archaeologist after almost 20 years since the last movie in the franchise but a recent teaser trailer has piqued fans' hopes of a triumphant comeback.

However, Star Wars creator Lucas said his experiences with his films set in a galaxy far, far away have led him to believe that audiences will almost certainly be disappointed by the revival of Indiana Jones.

"When you do a movie like this, a sequel that's very, very anticipated, people anticipate ultimately that it's going to be the Second Coming," he explained to USA Today.

"And it's not. It's just a movie. Just like the other movies. You probably have fond memories of the other movies. But if you went back and looked at them, they might not hold up the same way your memory holds up."

Lucas continued: "When people approach the new [Indiana Jones], much like they did with Phantom Menace, they have a tendency to be a little harder on it.

"You're not going to get a lot of accolades doing a movie like this. All you can do is lose."

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, released on May 22nd, sees Ford back as Dr Jones and Karen Allen returning as love interest Marion Ravenwood, while John Hurt will play her father Abner.

Cate Blanchett stars as the villainous Agent Irina Spalko, Ray Winstone features as Dr Jones' rival Mac and rising star Shia LaBeouf takes on the role of tearaway Mutt Williams, who rumours suggest could be Dr Jones' son.
