GENESIS LYRICS INSPIRED BY POSH SCHOOL

Rock legends GENESIS developed their fantasy lyrical style because their posh school upbringing left them with no idea of love.
Guitarist Mike Rutherford admits life in exclusive British boys' school Charterhouse in Surrey, south England, meant he, keyboard player Tony Banks, and lead singer Peter Gabriel couldn't write love songs - preferring to pen lyrics about myth and fantasy.
He says, "We hadn't really experienced much outside education so I suppose in a way that's partly why we wrote fantasy lyrics rather than 'boy-girl' things."
Band mate Banks adds, "I was very self-conscious and could never have expressed anything like love in those days.
"It was much easier to go back to Greek myths and write things like that. So we'd plunder Ovid and anyone else we could find."
