GELDOF PLANS 'PEACE TV'
Bob Geldof is planning to unveil a new 'peace' television channel which will be broadcast via the web.
The Boomtown Rat, who masterminded Live Aid and Live 8, has agreed to work on an idea under the title, Peace Channel, with internet firm Ten Alps Digital.
Under the terms of the agreement the company will develop proposals for a worldwide broadband channel, complete with video clips and social networking functions.
Scheduled to launch in 2008, the channel is being funded by Point of Peace, a Norwegian-based organisation which also supports programmes by Nobel Peace Laureates.
The group says it is confident of attracting funding from a number of international organisations, with Geldof acting as Ten Alps' non-executive director.
Further details are anticipated in the autumn, with Geldof keen to supplement the work he has done already in tackling global poverty.
In 2005 the singer was nominated for the Nobel peace prize for his work on the Live 8 concerts.
