GELDOF: 'PAULA LIVED IN FEAR'
SIR BOB GELDOF believes his late ex-wife PAULA YATES' fear of inheriting manic depression from her father contributed to her tragic death. The former BOOMTOWN RATS frontman divorced TV presenter Yates in 1996 after she left him to be with INXS rocker MICHAEL HUTCHENCE. Geldof was devastated in September 2000, when Yates died of an accidental drug overdose. In reflection, Geldof admits Yates was aware there was something wrong when she was alive. He says, "There was always a sense there was something pushing at her. She was afraid that it was manic depression inherited from her father. "He was manic depressive big time and she kept reading that it could be inherited and she was very afraid of that, although she didn't take pills or stuff like that. "And then I think that she had this big-time nervous breakdown, unfortunately all too publicly."
