GATELY PREPARING FOR LONDON SHOW BEFORE DEATH
Tragic singer STEPHEN GATELY was set to star in a top London stage production in the new year (10), according to SIR ELTON JOHN's husband DAVID FURNISH.
The No Matter What hitmaker died in Majorca, Spain earlier this month (10Oct09) after suffering a build-up of fluid on the lungs.
At the time of his death, Gately was working on a new book - and Furnish reveals he was also preparing for a West End role in Jersey Boys early next year (10).
He says, "There was talk of him taking one of the lead roles in Jersey Boys. Stephen was brilliant at musical theatre, it was a great second career for him."
Furnish attended the star's funeral on Saturday (17Oct09), along with Gately's Boyzone bandmates and music mogul Louis Walsh - and he's still reeling from Gately's sudden death.
He adds, "I think it's wonderful so many have turned out to honour his life. I just feel incredibly sad, I've lost a dear friend. It just seems so unfair, I can't really make sense of it. He was the kindest, most uncomplicated (person) I've ever known in my life and a very pure soul and it guts me to think he's gone."
Sir Elton John was unable to attend the service due to commitments in Zurich, Switzerland, but sent flowers to the star's grieving family.
