GALLAGHER'S SOCCER DREAM THWARTED
Oasis rocker NOEL GALLAGHER was denied his dream of playing for his beloved soccer team Manchester City - because of a copyright conflict with a popular British clothing chain.
The guitarist had agreed with the club's former chairman Francis Lee to sign on as an honorary squad member - in exchange for featuring the band's name on the front of the team's shirts.
But Gallagher's lifelong ambition of appearing for City was thwarted, as the rockers' name had been copyrighted by women's clothing store Oasis.
He says, "An idea was concocted that I would sign as a player. I told them: 'I'm not going to be registered as a City player and not play.' As it transpired, we don't own the rights to any garment with Oasis on because the women's clothes chain copyrighted the name long before we formed."
