GAINSBOURG PAID TO FIX MAN'S TEETH
Late French singer SERGE GAINSBOURG once gave a photographer's assistant a cheque for 10,000 francs ($1935/GBP1,075) so he could have two false teeth fitted. The JE T'AIME legend was sitting for a shoot for French photographer PIERRE TERRASSON when he noticed the assistant's gappy smile, and inquired why he didn't get it fixed. When the assistant informed Gainsbourg he couldn't afford the dental work, the singer immediately wrote out the cheque. Terrasson recalls, "During one of the last sessions before he died, Serge noticed my assistant had two teeth missing and asked him why he didn't get them fixed. "He replied that he couldn't afford to, at which point Serge wrote out a cheque for the 10,000 francs it would cost. "My assistant photographed the cheque before he paid it in, but the signature was probably worth more than the sum itself!" Gainsbourg died in 1991. He was 62.
