GABRIEL UNITES SUPER-STATESMEN FOR CHARITY DRIVE
Former GENESIS rocker PETER GABRIEL has teamed some of the world's most inspiring and influential individuals in a bid to help the globe's most needy people.
Two years after Gabriel and Virgin tycoon Sir Richard Branson convinced a group of statesmen, including Nelson Mandela, Kofi Annan and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, to join forces, The Elders are beginning to carry out good deeds.
Gabriel reveals, "It's just starting now."
And he reveals his inspiration, "People have lost trust in a lot of institutions around the world, but they still have faith in certain of key individuals.
"We felt that if we could get a group of elder statesmen and women together, they could have an influence and leverage and help on a few situations.
"We went to Mandela and he set it up a couple of years ago. We have Desmond Tutu, Kofi Annan.
"They can connect people on the ground who are suffering with people who can make a phone call."
