FRENCH RAPPER AVOIDS PROSECUTION
Outspoken French rapper MONSIEUR R will not face prosecution over controversial song lyrics which likened France to a 'slut' and its government to ADOLF HITLER's Third Reich. In his track FRANSSE, Monsieur R - real name RICHARD MAKELA - alludes to urinating on NAPOLEON BONAPARTE and GENERAL CHARLES DE GAULLE and brands his home country a "bitch" that needs to be taken "until exhaustion". The song's video, which features graphic clips of African atrocities interspersed with images of naked women playing with the French tricolor flag, has already been banned from television. And now politicians have blamed FranSSe for inciting the riots which swept France last November (05). Politician DANIEL MACH brought charges against Makela, accusing him of broadcasting a pornographic and violent message to minors. MACh also lobbied for new legislation which would outlaw insulting statements about the French state. Makela could have been hit with a 75,000 euro ($94,000/GBP52,000) fine and a three-year jail term but the case has been thrown out of court, reports AllHipHop.com. The presiding judge ruled MACh had not suffered any harm at the hands of Makela, and there were no victims in the case. Makela's lawyer DOMINIQUE TRICAUD says, "The judges have been courageous in their judgment because there was very strong political pressure. "Two hundred deputies from the parliament asked for a special law from the parliament against the rappers. They wanted to kill rap in France."
