FREEMAN, HARRIS AND HAREWOOD HONOURED AT SCREEN NATION AWARDS

Actors MORGAN FREEMAN, NAOMIE HARRIS and DAVID HAREWOOD were among the stars honoured at the Screen Nation Film and TV Awards in London on Monday (15Oct07). Freeman picked up the Outstanding Contribution To Film And TV gong, while Harris was named Best Female Film Performance for her role in Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and its sequel, At World's End. Harewood won the Best Male Film Performance gong for Blood Diamond. However, Ghanian producer - and founder of the annual awards - Charles Thompson used the ceremony to launch a scathing attack on the U.K. film industry. He warned that the U.K. was facing a "drain on black talent" because black actors were forced to move to the U.S. to find decent acting roles, citing Thandie Newton and Marianne Jean-Baptiste as examples of British stars who had relocated to America to enhance their careers.

Charles Thompson did not make scathing attack on the U.K film industry. Was the journalist who wrote this even at the awards show? I think not. The whole show was a celebration of Black British talent from start to finish.
