FREARS PROVIDED ALTMAN WITH GOSFORD PARK INSURANCE
British moviemaker STEPHEN FREARS received a producing credit for period movie GOSFORD PARK - because aged director ROBERT ALTMAN couldn't get insured.
THE QUEEN director reveals he was teaching at the time and was stunned when he got the call asking to be Altman's insurance cover.
He recalls, "You get to a certain age and you can't get insurance."
Frears agreed to be a part of the film on three conditions.
He explains, "They were I didn't have to read the script, I didn't have to go to the set and he (Altman) wasn't to die until he'd finished with (Gosford Park star) MAGGIE SMITH."
The legendary filmmaker survived the 2001 movie, but died last month, aged 81.
