FREARS LINES UP CLOUGH BIOPIC
British director STEPHEN FREARS is to make a film about late outspoken soccer boss BRIAN CLOUGH.
Frears - nominated for a Best Director Oscar for THE QUEEN at this year's (07) Academy Awards - is looking to bring the story of Clough's brief but turbulent time as manager of British soccer club Leeds United in 1974 to the big screen.
The movie will be based on the book THE DAMNED UTD by DAVID PEACE and Frears is keen to have The Queen's MICHAEL SHEEN star as Clough, who died in 2004.
He says, "I'm hoping to make a film about Brian Clough at the end of the year based on a wonderful book I came across.
"The truth is that it hasn't been written yet. PETER MORGAN (THE QUEEN) is writing it, and with luck we will make it."
He adds, "There's a strong likelihood I'm going to be doing it. I know Michael Sheen is going to play him (Clough) because he looks like him."
