FOXY BROWN'S RELEASE ATTEMPT DENIED

LATEST: Troubled rapper FOXY BROWN's bid for freedom has been rejected by a New York City judge. The pregnant hip-hop star, real name Inga Marchand, was jailed last Wednesday (22Aug07) by Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson for violating probation from a 2006 assault conviction following her recent arrest for assaulting her neighbour and a traffic stop for driving on a suspended license. Marchand filed suit against New York's Correction Department on Monday (27Aug07), claiming Judge Jackson's decision to jail her last week was "abitrary" and "unlawful". Marchand's court filing claims she is "suffering greatly" at Rikers Island prison, according to the New York Post. However, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Laura Ward denied Marchand's application for release. Marchand's lawyer Ikiesha Al-Shabazz tells the New York Daily News, "We're going to file an appeal." The Candy star is expected to appear in court on 7 September (07) for a hearing. The rapper was sentenced to three years probation last year (06) after she was found guilty of assaulting two manicurists in 2004. She was also arrested in Florida in February (07) for battery and resisting arrest in a Pembroke Pines beauty store.
