FOO FIGHTERS LEAD CLASSIC ROCK AWARDS
FOO FIGHTERS have been crowned band of the year at the Classic Rock Awards in London on Monday (03Oct08).
Frontman Dave Grohl accepted the prize in a video-taped speech to the audience at the city's Park Lane Hotel.
Other big winners at the ceremony included legendary group Led Zeppelin, who picked up the event of the year gong for their one-off reunion gig in London last December (08).
Rock veterans Whitesnake landed the best album award for their latest LP Good To Be Bad, while Kiss singer Paul Stanley was presented with showman of the year and Australian group Airborne were named best new band.
Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash presented Black Sabbath star Ozzy Osbourne with the living legend award and the Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood handed Jeff Beck the outstanding contribution prize.
Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett, who died in 2006, was honoured posthumously with the inspiration award, which was collected by his sister Rosemary.

Album of the year: Whitesnake - Good To Be Bad
Re-issue of the year: Metallica - First three albums, vinyl re-issues
DVD of the year : AC DC - Plug Me In
Best new band: Airbourne
Classic songwriter: Peter Green, Fleetwood MAC
Showman award: Paul Stanley, Kiss
The Armand de Brignac VIP award: Harvey Goldsmith
Gibson presents the Tommy Vance inspiration award: Syd Barrett
Classic album: Cream - Disraeli Gears
Metal guru: Wayne Kramer, MC5
Classic Rock/ Childline award: Bryan Adams
Outstanding contribution: Jeff Beck.
