FONDA STARTLED BY 'MATRONLY' PHOTOS

Veteran actress JANE FONDA was taken aback by the publicity photos for her upcoming run in Broadway show 33 VARIATIONS - because the undoctored shots made her look old.
The 71-year-old star will perform her first Broadway show in 46 years when the Moises Kaufman production debuts next week (09Mar09).
And Fonda, who turned heads in the 1960s as sci-fi sex kitten Barbarella, admits she's struggling to accept the ageing process.
She writes on her blog, "Looking at these more realistic, unadorned photos of myself, I had to take a deep breath, and... allow myself to acknowledge, I mean really allow the truth in - I am old. I am matronly.
"I asked one of my co-stars, 'How come bags under Vanessa Redgrave's eyes look noble and under mine they look like crap?'... This is what I have been given. This profession requires humility - alongside the ego that wishes we looked better."
