FIRTH TO STAR IN MAMMA MIA

Colin Firth will join an already expansive cast of stars for the forthcoming movie of the musical Mamma Mia, according to reports.

The Bridget Jones actor will be starring alongside Stellan Skarsgard and Christine Baranski in the popular Abba musical to be directed by Phyllida Lloyd.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Firth will also be joining Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Amanda Seyfried in the movie, which is due to start filming during the summer in both London and Greece.

Mamma Mia is set to be Firth's first musical although he is well-known to global audiences for his role as Mark Darcy in the Bridget Jones films as well as the rather more famous Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice.

The musical focuses on the characters Sophie, who is getting married, and her mother Donna who seems to want to forget her past.

Sophie then finds three men she suspects might be her father and invites them to her wedding, where much drama ensues.

In total there are 22 Abba songs performed during the show, including Take a Chance on Me and The Winner Takes It All.
