FEW VIEWERS FOR DAYTIME EMMY AWARDS
Mirroring the sad state of affairs (no pun intended) of daytime television in general, Sunday night's telecast of the Daytime Emmy Awards hit an all-time low in the ratings on the CW network. The awards telecast averaged just 2.3 million viewers, half what it drew just last year when it aired on ABC, the previous ratings low. Most of the shows that received awards during the telecast attract bigger audiences -- a particularly disturbing fact given that the entire raison d'etre for the primetime telecast is to expose daytime shows to viewers who don't ordinarily watch TV during the day. Still, the telecast represented the biggest Sunday audience that the CW has drawn since March 2007. Then again, the network has decided to abandon weekend telecasts beginning this fall.
