FERRY EMBROILED IN NAZI STORM

Bryan Ferry has caused outrage after comments he made to a German newspaper regarding Nazi architecture and films.

While speaking to the newspaper Welt Am Sonntag, the former Roxy Music frontman said the Nazis "knew how to put themselves in the limelight".

He continued: "Leni Riefenstahl's movies, Albert Speer's buildings, the mass parades and the flags - just amazing. Really beautiful."

The 61-year-old singer also acknowledged that he calls his studio in west London the "Fuhrerbunker".

Ferry was recently unveiled as a model for Marks and Spencer (M&S), modelling a range of men's suits and other clothing.

Lord Janner, a Labour peer and former president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, said that the comments were "deeply offensive".

"Riefenstahl was part of the Nazi movement and the Nazis were murderers - and the mass parades he refers to make me vomit.

"Marks & Spencer should have a serious rethink about employing him."

Both Leni Riefenstahl and Albert Speer were close to Adolf Hitler and the hierarchy of the Nazi party.

Riefenstahl made films which glorified the regime during the 1930s, including Triumph of the Will, a propaganda film released in 1935. She died in 2003.

Albert Speer acted as Hitler's chief architect and was jailed for 20 years at the Nuremberg trials.
