Actress ALICIA SILVERSTONE has thrown her support behind Los Angeles councilman Tony Cardenas in his bid to build an elephant sanctuary for the mammals currently housed at the Los Angeles Zoo. Cardenas claims plans to expand the zoo's elephant habitat would still leave it too small for the animals, and has proposed a $10 million (GBP5.7 million) plan for a new sanctuary in California's San Fernando Valley.
