FAMILY GUY BANNED IN VENEZUELA
Venezuelan officials are threatening TV networks with fines if they do not axe U.S. animated series FAMILY GUY from their schedule.
The country's Justice Minister Tareck El Aissami ordered the controversial comedy, devised by Seth MACFarlane, should be removed from the country's airtime, insisting it promotes the use of marijuana.
The government was outraged after an episode in which the show's characters seemingly advocate legalising weed was broadcast to audiences.
And authorities stepped up their campaign on Thursday (24Sep09) by warning any network bosses who ignore the imposed ban will be hit with a fine.
American censors have also struggled with certain topics the show confronts - networks refused to air an abortion-themed episode last month (Aug09) after deciding it went too far.
