FALK: 'HOLLYWOOD SNUB HAD NO AFFECT ON ME'
COLUMBO star PETER FALK was nonplussed when told he'd never make it in Hollywood, because he initially had no intention of hitting the screen. The 79-year-old star was determined to succeed as an actor, but theatre was far more important than film to the young New Yorker. He says, "I wanted to be on stage. In 1950 in New York City if you're gonna be an actor, you're gonna act on stage. "Going to Hollywood was like going to Mars. That had nothing to do with me. I mean, how was I gonna end up in Hollywood? Television? I didn't even own a TV. "But I knew actors acted on the stage. That's what I wanted to do. So when I was told: 'You won't be in movies,' I didn't know what to make of it. I just said: 'I don't intend to be.'"
