FAIR-WEATHER FANS BAIL ON SERIES
Fox's coverage of the World Series, which had drawn decent ratings for thefirst two games, saw those ratings plummet Saturday as rain delayed thegame's start until after 10 00 p.m. Eastern Time. It ended dramatically at1 47 a.m. when the Phillies scored the winning run with a bases-loadedsingle. The average estimated audience of 9.8 million represented the lowestnumber of World Series viewers since the modern ratings system went intoeffect. (On the other hand, the Series telecast continued to draw bigaudiences in the West, where it began at 7 00 p.m.) Sunday's telecast ofGame 4 picked up considerably, attracting 15.94 million viewers.Nevertheless that figure was down from last year's Game 4, which saw 20.94million viewers in attendance. Meanwhile, Mediaweek reported that NBCmay drawn the worst Sunday ratings in its history.
