ESTEFAN CANCELS MEXICO TRIP

LATEST: GLORIA ESTEFAN scrapped a trip to Mexico on Tuesday (23Oct07) in order to stay by her ailing mother's side. The singer's mum, Gloria Fajardo, is fighting for her life in an intensive care unit in a Miami, Florida hospital after emergency surgery last week (14Oct07). Doctors discovered an intestinal rupture that had caused a severe infection and opted to operate on the 78-year-old. Estefan's publicist says, "Gloria is looking after her day and night, staying with her... She stays hopeful through prayer; counting on God for her mom to be OK. "Gloria is completely right for wanting to stay close to her mom, which is why she had to postpone the trip to Mexico." Estefan was scheduled to promote her latest album at a press conference in Mexico on Tuesday (23Oct07). The singer previously cancelled obligations in New York and Los Angeles to care for her mum.
