E.R.'S EDWARDS RACES TO BUILD AFRICAN HOSPITAL

Former E.R. star ANTHONY EDWARDS is racing to raise $1 million (£666,670) as he prepares to run the star-studded New York City Marathon this autumn (09) - to build an African hospital.
The 26.2 mile (42.2 kilometre) trek has become increasingly popular among celebrities - Katie Holmes, Ryan Reynolds and Sean 'Diddy' Combs are all former Manhattan marathon runners.
And now it's Edwards' turn to lace up his running shoes for charity.
With two months to go, the actor, who played Dr. Mark Greene on E.R., has already banked $450,000 (£300,000) in donations for non-profit organisation Shoe4Africa, which aims to build the largest public children's hospital in the sub-Saharan region.
He tells People.com, "There's no pediatric education and medicine in sub-Saharan Africa. One hospital there has always had a dream of having a children's hospital, so we're really hoping to achieve that dream.
"We'd like to reach the $1 million mark. Then we can start building the hospital."
The race is set for 1 November (09).
