ENO SLAMS ISRAEL AT LONDON'S GAZA STRIKES PROTEST

Legendary producer BRIAN ENO took to the streets of London on Saturday (03Jan09) to speak out against the continued Israeli bomb strikes in the Gaza strip.
The former Roxy Music star joined a protest in the British capital to denounce the current conflict between Israel and Hamas governed Gaza.
The violence in the Middle East between Palestinian controlled Gaza and Israel began last week (beg22Dec08), with both sides ignoring international calls for a ceasefire.
Singer Annie Lennox and Bianca Jagger have also slammed the actions of Israel's military - branding the warfare as the "slaughter and systematic murder" of Arabs living in the area.
And Eno stepped up to speak to a mass of demonstrators - hitting out at the actions of the Israeli government.
He said, "What we're seeing in Gaza is an experiment in provocation conducted by the Israeli government. You take one and a half million people, you stuff them into a small space, you deny them food, water, sanitation, medicine, and then act surprised when they get hostile.
"But you want that hostility, because that's the cue for you to act the victim. Israel is pretending to be a victim in a situation in which they are the oppressor.
"It's tragic that a country formed in the ashes of the holocaust should act in this way. It's heartbreaking. Why do the Israelis do it? What's the reason for creating this conflict?"
Palestine and Israel have long fought over control of Gaza; in 1994 Palestine took over rule of the area from Israel, which had governed the area since 1967. Hamas, a Palestinian Islamic paramilitary organisation, took leadership of the area in 2007.
