ELTON JOINS ALICE IN CHAINS FOR STALEY TRIBUTE

SIR ELTON JOHN has added his voice to an upcoming tribute to ALICE IN CHAINS rocker LAYNE STALEY.
The Brit sings on the title track of the group's comeback album, Black Gives Way to Blue.
Guitarist Jerry Cantrell admits he thought the pairing was an odd one when a friend suggested he ask Elton John to take part, but he wrote to him anyway.
He says, "I decided it was worth trying and wrote Elton an email explaining what that song means to us - that it’s a real, raw open-hearted song for Layne.
"Elton John is a huge influence on me as a songwriter and having him on that song is an amazing honour for us."
Meanwhile, Elton admits he's a longtime "admirer of Jerry Cantrell" and "couldn’t resist" the offer: "It was a great recording session with Alice In Chains for a beautiful song."
Staley died from a lethal overdose in 2002.
The Black Gives Way to Blue album also features William DuVall, Staley's replacement in Alice In Chains.
