ELTON FAILS TO KNOCK TAKE THAT OFF TOP SPOT
SIR ELTON JOHN's new greatest hits album ROCKET MEN - THE DEFINITIVE HITS has failed to knock reformed boy band TAKE THAT from the top of the UK album chart.
The legendary rocker, who last week (25MAR07) celebrated his 60th birthday, reached number two after the LPs first week of release, trailing behind Take That's BEAUTIFUL WORLD.
The new album features 18 classic tracks from Elton's long career, including DON'T LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME and CANDLE IN THE WIND.
Scottish rockers THE PROCLAIMERS held on to the number one spot in the singles chart with a charity re-release of their classic track I GONNA BE (500 MILES), featuring comedians MATT LUCAS and PETER KAY. AVRIL LAVIGNE's GIRLFRIEND moved from third to second, and GWEN STEFANI moved from fourth to third.
