ELBOW & DIZZEE RASCAL STAND AGAINST MUSIC TORTURE
British acts ELBOW and DIZZEE RASCAL are taking part in a silent protest to call for the end of the reported use of music as interrogation method by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
The rockers and rapper have teamed up with pressure group Reprieve to film a public broadcast announcement as a "visual petition" against the practise.
In the footage, the artists are shown standing in silence and staring into the camera.
The protest is against the the CIA's technique of playing deafening music over a long period to force people into providing information during interrogations.
Reprieve boss Clive Stafford Smith explains, "Torture should have been left in the Middle Ages, yet it rears its head in new forms. Music torture tears people apart mentally - as much as any razor blade. I encourage everyone to join our silent protest against the use of music torture."
