EFRON CHARMS US BOX OFFICE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION
In his first leading role since the High School Musical franchise, Zac Efron has topped the US box office charts in new comedy 17 Again.
Starring alongside Matthew Perry and Leslie Mann as a miserable father-of-two who gets a chance to relive his high school years, Efron's huge popularity among teenage girls saw the Warner Bros/New Line film earn a creditable $24.1 million in its opening weekend.
"We're going to have some legs on this film," Warner president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman was quoted by the Reuters news agency as saying.
Political thriller State of Play, a film version of the acclaimed BBC drama, debut in second after its first three days on release, with an estimated $14.1 million.
Monsters vs Aliens and Hannah Montana: The Movie remained in the top five while action sequel Crank 2: High Voltage entered the chart at number six, with an estimated $6.5 million.
