EAGLES CONFIRM NEW ALBUM

Seminal US rock band the Eagles have announced their first studio album for almost 30 years.

Long Road out of Eden goes on sale internationally at the end of October while their record company Universal has signed a deal with US retailers Wal-Mart and Sam's Club.

The last disc of new material from the Californian group was The Long Run in 1979.

Best known for their hits Hotel California and Life in the Fast Lane, the four-strong band made up of Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy Schmidt reformed in the early 1990s after breaking up in the previous decade.

They have since held a number of lucrative tours across the world, while greatest hits releases have contributed to total album sales in excess of 120 million.

The first single from their upcoming album, How Long, received its video and radio premiere last week.

"It's rare to have the opportunity to be involved with a band of their stature, as they define popular music in so many ways," commented Universal chief executive officer Lucian Grainge.
