DUFFY AND FELLOW BRIT AWARD WINNERS TO ENJOY SALES BOOST
Welsh songstress Duffy and other winners at the 2009 Brit awards are to enjoy increased record sales, according to the Official Charts Company.
The Mercy singer claimed three gongs at Wednesday's awards show but also saw her debut album Rockferry downloaded four times more than average, the UK charts monitor confirmed.
Her singles Warwick Avenue, Mercy and Rain on Your Parade, and her cover of Live and Let Die from the new War Child charity album, were also downloaded twice as much as non-Brit-nominated singles.
Elbow's The Seldom Seen Kid received a download surge after their best British group win while Estelle, the Ting Tings and Coldplay all saw a rise in sales, despite leaving the Brits empty-handed.
"In this digital age, fans can hear music on the TV or radio and instantly satisfy their need to own the track or album by downloading it there and then," said Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company.
"And these figures indicate that a show like the Brits can have an immediate impact on sales an impact which we expect to see rolling through the rest of this week, as CD sales are also boosted by the Brit artists' media profile and in-store retail campaigns."
