Shia LaBeouf says he had to stop drinking whisky because it turned him into a ''werewolf'', and he also plans to stop smoking.

Shia LaBeouf gave up drinking whisky because it turned him into a "werewolf".

The 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' actor intends to quit drinking any alcohol and stop smoking because both habits have a negative effect on him.

He said: "I had to give up scotch, because it turns me into a werewolf - and cigarettes too. I seem to like to kiss trouble on the forehead and then try to back away. I test my limits quite often. I guess that's what 22-year-olds do. But I'm fallible and human and I'm figuring it out."

Last July, Shia was injured in a car accident and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), but was later cleared.

Shia suffered injuries to his head and knee and required "extensive surgery" to his hand. The damage to his hand was so severe it had to be written into the script of the new 'Transformers' film.

His passenger suffered minor injuries, as did the driver of the other car.

Smoking has also got Shia into trouble.

Last year, he set off smoke alarms in a US museum when he lit up a cigarette in the bathroom.

The 22-year-old heartthrob received a stern lecture and warning from officials at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, in Washington D.C, after attempting to smoke in the building while filming the 'Transformers' sequel.
