DR MARTENS SAYS SORRY TO LOVE
Rock royalty Courtney Love has received an apology from Dr Martens, the boot maker for teen Goths everywhere, over their use of her late husband Kurt Cobain in a new advert.
The new advert, aiming to show the durability of the shoes and boots, came from the creative minds at the famous Saatchi and Saatchi advertising company and shows four deceased rockers – Clash frontman Joe Strummer, Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols and Joey Ramone among them - hanging out in punk heaven wearing their boots.
Cobain, the frontman of Seattle-based grunge rockers Nirvana, committed suicide in 1994 when he was just 27.
However Courtney, not one to hold back on what she really thinks, spoke out against the adverts and the use of her husband's image without her consent.
"Courtney had no idea this was taking place and would never have approved such a use," a representative for the Hole singer told People magazine.
"She thinks it's outrageous that a company is allowed to commercially gain from such a despicable use of her husband's picture."
Courtney's open dislike of the advertisements, albeit through a representative, have caused Dr Martens to apologise although it is not certain if the advertisements will go on to be shown.
"Dr. Martens is very sorry for any offence that has been caused by the publication of images showing dead rock icons wearing Dr. Martens boots," a statement from the company read.
