DR. DREW BLASTS DR. PHIL OVER SPEARS TREATMENT

Celebrity doctors DREW PINSKY and PHIL MCGRAW are sparring over the treatment of troubled superstar BRITNEY SPEARS. Pinsky, who recently treated American Idol singer Jessica Sierra, has attacked the advice MCGraw gave Spears when he visited her in hospital following her recent stand-off with police - and challenged the TV talk show host's right to call himself a doctor. The addiction specialist claims by getting involved, MCGraw has made the situation worse. He says, "It's never good for an addict when there are multiple sources getting involved. You have to have a unified front. Addicts love a split. it helps them maintain the chaos. "He's not a physician. I'm a MD. I went to medical school. He's a psychologist and I don't think he has a license in California."

Way to go Dr. Drew. I agree with him completely and feel that Dr. Phil's reason for intervening was purely a career tactic and in no way has any professional training to even attempt to help a person in this dimension of their illness and truly only hurt the situation more by making his actions public. In my opinion, if Dr. Phil was really interested in the wellbeing of Britney Spears he would have arranged for something private and in the very least brought along with him a trained professional. By speaking out about his conversation with her and by publicizing this I believe he also broke the sacred Doctor/Patient privilege regardless of whether he was given her permission to do so or not. How can a real doctor rely on the permission of someone that isn't capable of making rational and healthy decisions for themselves.
