DOUGLAS HONOURED FOR HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS
Hollywood veteran KIRK DOUGLAS has been honoured for his humanitarian work at a ceremony in Los Angeles.
The actor was told he had "saved many lives" by pal Steven Spielberg at the Shoah Foundation's Ambassadors for Humanity on Thursday (23Oct08).
Douglas and his wife have funded the construction of 400 playgrounds in LA's schools.
Spielberg said: "Kirk Douglas, in a way, has saved many lives - not just through his art, but through his humanitarian contributions to the planet.
"We're here to show how closely attuned Kirk Douglas is as a representative of our work and our vision at the Shoah Foundation."
The tribute is the second in a month for Douglas - the acting legend and his wife, Anne, have also been honoured for their charity efforts by The Good News Foundation, with officials awarding the couple the Good News Makers of the Year accolade.
