DOUGLAS HANDLING SON'S DRUG TROUBLES 'FINE'
MICHAEL DOUGLAS is "holding up fine" under the stress of his son CAMERON's legal troubles following his arrest on drug-trafficking charges last month (Aug09).
Actor Cameron Douglas is currently being held behind bars at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City after a police raid on his room at the Hotel Gansevoort on 3 August (09).
He was initially placed on home detention at his mother's apartment, but was transferred to a prison cell after he allegedly asked his girlfriend to smuggle heroin to him in an electric toothbrush.
Wall Street star Douglas recently broke his silence over the arrest, admitting he was "devastated and disappointed" by the 30 year old's actions.
But the Hollywood actor insists he and Cameron's mother, his ex-wife Diandra, are getting by.
He tells People.com, "I'm holding up fine. It's a very difficult situation and painful, as I'm sure any mother or father of a substance abuser knows. So we're doing the best we can."
Cameron was due back in court on Thursday (10Sep09) for a preliminary hearing. He faces a minimum of 10 years in prison if convicted, and could be sentenced to life behind bars.
