DOUBLE RECOGNITION FOR WINSLET FROM ACTORS' UNION

Kate Winslet has received a further two nominations for her upcoming films Revolutionary Road and The Reader.

The British actress was nominated for best actress for the former and best supporting actress for the latter when the nominations for the 2009 Golden Globes were announced last Thursday.

She was recognised for the same films in the London Film Critics' Circle awards nominations and has now been shortlisted for two Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards.

The nominees for the best ensemble prize - the SAG's equivalent of a best picture award - are familiar, with Slumdog Millionaire, Doubt and Milk all named.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Frost/Nixon complete the list, with the lead actors from both - Brad Pitt and Frank Langella - up for the best film actor prize.

Mickey Rourke is also nominated for the best actor gong, along with Sean Penn for Milk and Richard Jenkins for The Visitor.

Winslet's competition in the best actress category comes from Angelina Jolie for Changeling, Meryl Streep for Doubt, Anne Hathaway for Rachel Getting Married and Melissa Leo for Frozen River.

The late Heath Ledger is nominated for the best supporting actor award alongside Josh Brolin, Robert Downey Jr, Philip Seymour Hoffman and young British actor Dev Patel.

And Amy Adams, Penelope Cruz, Viola Davis and Taraji P Henson are rivals to Winslet for the best supporting actress trophy.

James Earl Jones, who voiced Darth Vader in the Star Wars films, is to be honoured with a life achievement award.
