DOLL JOHANSEN SLAMS MODERN ROCK

NEW YORK DOLLS frontman DAVID JOHANSEN has hit out at modern rock, dubbing it violent and negative. The glam rocker can't distinguish the current batch of bands from each other - because their music all sounds the same. He says, "A lot of these bands all sound the same. They're singing about the same kind of nonsense with a lot of negative energy and hatred, a lot of songs about stabbing your friend in the eye with a ballpoint pen." Johansen's distaste for contemporary rock spurred him to create a new album with the band - ONE DAY IT WILL PLEASE US TO REMEMBER - which he hopes will steer new acts in the right direction. He adds, "With this record, we kept our original philosophy and wanted things to be and feel more positive than that. The songs have a really good feel to them."
