DOHERTY: I CAN CONVINCE CARL BARAT TO REFORM LIBERTINES
Pete Doherty has claimed he will be able to convince ex-bandmate Carl Barat to reform the Libertines eventually.
The Can't Stand Me Now band split in 2004, six months after Doherty performed with the band for the final time.
Despite Doherty's drug addictions creating a huge split within the band - with Doherty at one point burgling Barat's flat - the pair have tentatively reconciled and Barat joined Doherty on stage during the latter's Hackney Empire show in April 2007 to perform a number of Libertines songs.
They again played together in September 2008, and though Barat said this month he was not interested in a reunion "right now", Doherty says he will eventually talk his former songwriting partner into reforming the Libertines.
"I'm still trying to twist his arm to get the Libertines back together, but I think he's after a bit of solo action," Doherty said after winning best solo artist at the NME awards.
He added: "I don't twist it [Barat's arm] too far. He doesn't take kindly to it. He's not harder than me, but he's got a nasty streak, twist it too far and it'll snap."
Doherty added: "I've written and recorded a solo record. There's probably another on the way, there's an amazing Babyshambles record on the way, and the Libertines is gonna happen in the next couple of years, by hook or by crook."
